Olivia Davenport’s plan is destined to fail.
She is going through with it anyway, of course. After all, it is the chance of a lifetime. The unreasonable rules of others should not stand in her way.
In her small kingdom of Stewartsland, Olivia trains with the squires and harbors a secret dream. She longs to become a knight under the command of the Master-of–Arms, who just happens to be her father. He has indulged her passion so far, but they both know a simple fact – girls may not attain knighthood. Dismayed by the constant discouragement of her ambitions, she makes an impetuous decision to disguise herself as a boy in order to sneak on a mission. The consequences are not at all what she anticipated.
When her deception is revealed, she is sent home in disgrace; however, an unexpected turn of events puts her at the center of a dangerous plot against the King. The ensuing adventure finds her grappling with mercenaries and outlaws, yet these pale in comparison to her newly awakened emotions. She finds not only her life at risk, but also her heart, when the aloof Prince Liam begins to affect her in ways she never thought possible. In the end, it is her courage and unique spirit which must guide her through the challenges she encounters both physical and emotional.

I love when a book pleasantly surprises me

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.
I must confess that when I signed up to read and review this book I wasn't overly excited to do so. I love when a book pleasantly surprises me, and this one did just that!
Olivia lives in the kingdom of Stewartland. She is the only girl to train with the squires. She secretly aspires to become a Knight one day, yet she realizes that the chance of that happening is slim. She is angry because she knows that the only thing stopping her is the fact that she is a girl. When her father announces that her fellow squires will accompany himself and the king on an important mission, Olivia comes up with a plan. She decides that she will dress up like a boy and impersonate her friend Puck. She has no idea that this decision will change her life forever.
This book is full of excitement and adventure. It is a good, wholesome story that is suitable for all age groups. It is a story that I would highly recommend.

I have had this book for a while now to review and I am so glad that I finally took the time to sit down and read it. The world and characters that McGarry has created are done so well, I found myself staying up late just to read one more chapter, which we all know is never just one.
The main character, Olivia, was definitely an interesting girl. Her personality was fun and witty I loved her personality throughout the story. There definitely was a touch of Mulan like similarities in the story, which I loved!
The setting of the story, the storyline and the character relationships were all awesomely written. Most of all I enjoyed the relationship that Livy shares with her youngest sister Lydia, there was just such a sweet innocence between the two. Then there is Prince Liam... even though there was a slight touch of the insta-love factor, I felt that their relationship grew nicely. The dialogue between Oliva and Liam was fun and refreshing.
There were a few quotes from the book I had highlighted while reading so I thought I would share those with you guys:
"I don't get the princess fantasy—the adult-perpetuated myth that every little girl should dream of becoming a princess. Because you live happily ever after, right? This presumption is unconvincing to me. True princes are a rare find. So let's face it, the odds of becoming an actual princess are slim at best. Girls should be taught to create their own happiness."
"Happily ever after is a myth. There are some obstacles even love cannot overcome."
"My father always says that daring plans like these largely come down to three things–planning, courage, and luck; the first and the second are within your control, but unfortunately in the end, there isn't much you can do about luck."
Not Every Girl was a fun quick read and I am definitely interested in where Olivia's adventures go from here.

Upon reading ‘Not Every Girl’ I had no expectations as I hadn’t heard about the book before and knew very little as to what it was about. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
Olivia Davenport is such a strong character and when obstacles come in her way she always has a solution. Her lack of fear drives her to achieve what she wants in life and she will do anything she can to achieve her dreams. It is her strong will nature that led me to love Olivia. Olivia disguises herself as a boy and goes on the mission despite her father telling her she would not be allowed. When she is caught her, you expect her to be sent home to face the wrath of her mother, but no, Olivia always has another plan up her sleeve. She sets out on a mission of a lifetime to save the King and her father alongside the very loveable, Prince Liam.
In this book, we follow Olivia and Prince Liam on many ups and downs and watch as Olivia falls in love along the way. This is a love story with a twist.
Olivia has a lot of self-doubt throughout this book, which makes her character become more believable and lifelike. She is a heroine that many people will grow to love while reading this book. Her close relationship with her father also makes her character come to life and become more realistic; I loved reading their scenes.
The world building is perfect, as I was reading I could vividly picture what Jane was trying to portray. There is a lot of detail but not so much that I found myself lost and confused. It was the perfect amount to allow the reader to picture what was going on while understanding the story.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be recommending it to many people. I hope this will not be the last of Olivia and Prince Liam, as I would love to see what happens next.
