Wise and direct

I had been wrestling with mild cerebral narcissism and stumbled on this book. I read the title and laughingly thought to myself, "Ha. This is the last book I need to read." But thankfully, my curiousity made me take a peek.
And I found it was a book that I DID need to read. Narcissism has a lot to do with clinging to an ego...and this book is mostly about moving away from the ego.
I suppose some would find the big bold colored letters obnoxious and even juvenille, but I found it compelling...a neat way to break up the flow and to emphasize important passages. Also, it adds to the boldness of the advice.
Further, the language was very direct. I appreciate that. Most religious (and psych) books drag you through countless pages that are more about indoctrinating you than making sense.
And most of all, the advice is undeniably wise...and a bit intimidating, which only adds to its validity. Poor advice is all about comfort (e.g., "You got cut from the team because the coach was jealous.").
Lastly, despite the claim that the advice comes from the Kabbalah, the book's advice didn't seem to belong to any particular spiritual belief system. It simply is good advice, tough, but good.

Save your money

This book is not worth having unless you just need a book you can open, read a page and get some uplifting thought from. The Way, by the same author, is very good and I recommend it. It purports to teach Kabbalah, but it's really Kabbalah 'light'. However, the spiritual thought in the book is more than just uplifting, it is profound in places. But this book - not good enough to even keep - it's going out to the curb today with other books not worth keeping. If someone wants them, fine. Otherwise, the trash people will haul the box off in the morning.

This is the first book I've read by Michael Berg and it won't be my last. I like his style and the content was very relevant.
